The Municipality of Burauen, Leyte, a 2nd class municipality, is centrally located in the heart of Leyte Province, Philippines with a geographical coordinate of North 10-58-35; East 124-53-27 and is a beautiful extensive plains and plateau sorrounded by hills and mountains, valleys and rivers.

It is generally bounded by eight municipalities namelt; Jaro, Dagami, Julita, La Paz, MacArthur, Javier, and Albuera, and two (2) cities; Ormoc and Bay-bay. It consist a total land area of 30,784 hectares, 77% of which is agricultural land and 21% or equivalent to 6,600 hectares still forest area.

It is composed a total of 77 barangays, 9 barangays is in the urban area (pobalcion), while 29 barangays at the low land areas and 39 barangays at the up land areas. Being an agricultutal municipality, it’s primary products are coconut (copra), abaca and palay (rice), with some small production of assorted root crops like gabi, kamote (sweet potato), and cassava. Vegetable is being produce also but for home or family consumption only.

The Local Government Unit (LGU Burauen) has operated it’s owned water system, “The Burauen Water Works System (BWWS)”. The sources of the water works are at Kangunob Spring in Brgy. Tambis, while the other one is in Casilion Spring in Brgy. Hapunan. The two springs can produce 1,200 gpm of pure spring water that being supplied to the poblacion and the nearby low land barangays.
